Do you own one of these clear pumpkin cookie jars (don’t we all)?

You can find them just about anywhere: grocery store, drug store, Macy’s, Wal-Mart, you name it… Well, if we kept these cuties filled with gingersnaps and butternut squash cookies throughout the entire fall season, we’d outgrow our britches before Thanksgiving!

So, here’s a healthier alternative to cookies that we enjoy – and it even doubles as colorful fallish counter decor: bonus points! It’s a make-your-own autumn trail mix.

The possibilities are endless!
You can go sweet:
Honey nut chex
Honey roasted cashews
Dried apricots
Reese’s pieces
Honey wheat pretzels
Cracker jacks
You can go salty:
Honey mustard or sour cream and onion pretzels
Smoked almonds
Pretzel twists
Wheat chex
Bagel or pita chips
You can go sweet and salty:
Goldfish
Rice chex
Salted peanuts
Candy corn
Raisins (or craisins)
M&Ms
Currently in my pumpkin:
Pretzels
Apple pie almonds (love these)
Honey nut chex
Chocolate graham cracker bits
Dried apple “chips”
Golden raisins
You get the idea… There are so many fun options — you can try a new combo every week! It’s perfect to dip into for an after school snack, to bag up for lunch boxes, to cure mid-day munchies, etc. I like to keep small bowls and a scoop nearby so that it’s easy for family and friends to serve themselves.
