You know how, when you’re singing in a group or choir and you forget the words, you are supposed to just mouth the words “watermelon, watermelon” over and over, and supposedly people won’t be able to tell the difference?
You didn’t know that? Well, now you do.
Full of exceptionally useful information this blog is!
But seriously, it’s watermelon season people! If you’re like us, and have a household of two, even a small watermelon goes a loooooong way. So I thought I’d share a few little tidbits to add to your repertoire of watermelon knowledge.
First of all, my very favorite watermelon recipe is Watermelon Gazpacho Soup. Ever tried it? Sooooo divine! CLICK HERE for the recipe.
Also, did you know that watermelon is on the Clean 15 list? That means it’s safe to buy in non-organic form if you are concerned about pesticides and such. Always remember to wash your melon before cutting though! You can read more about the Clean 15 list (and the Dirty Dozen) HERE.
And lastly, what do you do with your leftover watermelon juice (you know, what’s left after you’ve balled up all the flesh)? HERE are a few ideas for “upcycling” your watermelon juice.
Of course perhaps the best way to enjoy this quintessential icon of summer days, is slice by thick ruby-red slice. Complete with juice running down your chin, and a seed spitting contest after dinner.

LOVE watermelon, someone just mentioned it in a comment on my blog yesterday and I’ve been wanting it ever since
It’s the perfect summertime food. I never thought of making anything out of it before, that’s cool that you can even make soup with it!
Isn’t the power of suggestion a funny thing?! You’ll have to let me know if you give the fruit a try sometime. Thanks for stopping by Jen!
I did not know that little ‘mouth watermelon’ tip! lol Now I need to go buy some watermelon… looks delicious!
I know, isn’t that a funny little tip!? I know, I currently don’t have any watermelon in the house and my mouth is watering as I look back through those pictures…
Mmmm… I love watermelon!
And I have heard that about mouthing “watermelon” to make it look like you are singing along. Good stuff!
oh dear. i’m drooling.
I know, the power of suggestion, right?!
This was remarkably helpful and useful!! I wanted to bookmark each link! Thanks for that!!
The hubs and I love watermelon and we look forward to it’s season each and every year. But honestly, I had forgotten about it this year. Not now!
Oh I’m so glad they were of some help! Better go get yourself to the market and buy and nice big juicy melon right now!
Happy Friday Twiggy!
Funny, we had watermelon yesterday! A big juicy one! Still have the other half to cut up…. Nom nom nom…. Clearly, we are the same page. (as always.)
LoL! Somehow I’m just not surprised – you know what they say: “great minds think alike”!
I never heard of the Clean 15 list. Definitely helpful information. Good to know about the ‘Dirty Dozen’ too. I’ll have to star those items on my shopping list in the future to look for organic.
Thanks for sharing
