Fan the Flames – Take Him Out to the Ballgame!

Hello all you sappy dating girls out there (by the by, you can be married and still be dating your main man-I hope you are ;-) )!

We’ve just celebrated July 4th in the USofA, and so I’ve got an All-American date night idea to share! A night at the ballpark.

First of all, let’s keep this as affordable as possible: if you happen to have a local Minor League team nearby, chances are, they offer discounts galore on general admission tickets. Check your paper, team website for promo nights, ValPak, and we even have a B1G1F offer through our Diner Club (random)!

Once you’ve gotten your tickets, let’s think about the food (the way to a man’s heart…). Of course you could just eat there at the game, but if you’re looking to squeeze a little more quality time out of the evening, why not eat at home (sans kids), or pack a picnic to enjoy at an overlook or public park on your way to the stadium? In keeping with the theme, hotdogs are always a winner with the guys.  Mix it up with some out-of-the-ordinary hot dog toppings: gourmet relish or chutney, horseradish mayo, salsa, chimichuri, sauerkraut, pimento cheese, you get the idea. Think outside the box. – Baked beans are an easy and reliable side (I like mixing butter beans in with mine!), pasta or potato salad (or a twice baked potato), and of course peanuts and crackerjacks! Plan to enjoy dessert during the game, or stop for a milkshake on your way home if your team wins.

Does your man love surprises? Plan all of this on the down low, and whisk him away for an evening of fun! Oh, and make sure you pack his mitt – he’ll want to be prepared to catch any of those foul balls, and will love the extra thought you put into that small gesture. – In the mood to double date? Arrange to meet some friends at the field after you’ve enjoyed your romantic picnic dinner- just the two of you.

Of course, don’t forget your camera to capture all the memories! Now, let’s PLAY BALL!

Got any fun baseball-themed ideas to add to this date? Leave them in the comments below.

Oh dating, i’ve forgotten how to do this.. but thank you for the refresher course.

You are SO god at this thoughtfulness business, Kristin. One of the many reasons I love you! :)

As an aside, Matthew doesn’t really like sports. That’s so weird, right?! Haha. He’s a conundrum of a man.

Thanks J, you are too sweet. I know, Jesse doesn’t really enjoy watching sports either…he’d rather be playing them. But occasionally I can talk him into going to a baseball or football game just for the “experience” (and good food). :-) Never fear, I’ll have more non-sport-related date ideas forthcoming for those men that fall into the “conundrum” category! Haha!

well i think this whole “sappy” dating thing is mean…. i mean dating is the best experience in the world.

    • kristin says:

Hi Cj, I use the word “sappy” in a very complimentary way! You know, how people refer to newlyweds?! I adore dating my husband and my goal is to keep those “sappy” feelings flowing until we’re 101 :-)

hmmmm. Hunter doesn’t enjoy sports that much. Which is one of the reasons that I love him! Who wants to watch hockey when we can make-out instead? Am I right? or am I right? I’m right.

Nor does he like hot dogs. Although, most men do.

He does, however, love surprises. I need to wisk him away more often.

    • kristin says:

Yup. You’re right. And yes, surprises are a very good thing when your man loves them! That’s the whole goal of this little every-now-and-then series – to encourage you to date your guy, however it’s the most meaningful to him!
