I really enjoy writing these “Simple Things” posts…reminders that our gestures don’t have to be elaborate or expensive to make those you love feel extra special.
So today’s “Simple Thing” is to pick a day to prepare a relaxing homecoming for your guy. Our husbands work so hard, and (if yours is anything like mine) often come home exhausted both physically and emotionally. – So our goal is to prepare a few little things that will help them relax and decompress from their day.
Why not set the tone with a little “Thank you for all you do… I’m so glad you’re home!” note taped to the door?
Does your guy like to soak in the tub to help soothe his weary muscles? If so, have a bath drawn with Epsom salts, so he can slip right in when he arrives. If he’s more of a shower guy, set out some fresh comfy clothes and put a towel in the drier for 10 minutes or so, bringing it to him when he is just ready to dry off. They may be men, but they’ll still appreciate the luxury of a freshly warmed towel!
While he’s relaxing in the tub or shower, fix up a little snack to hold him over ’til dinner. Maybe fruit, cheese, and chocolate? Or crackers and peanut better? Veggies and ranch? Just something light and easy. You could serve it in the tub, or have it sitting on the vanity for when he steps out of the shower.
Once he is clean, offer to give him a relaxing shoulder rub. It doesn’t have to be long, or deep, but a shoulder/neck rub always helps relieve tension.
And with just those few little thoughtful touches, your man will feel special, loved, and extra cared for….not to mention more relaxed for your evening together!
It’s the simple things girls, it’s the simple things.
*If your man gets home before you do, you can still set up a welcome note, fresh clothes in the bathroom, and have a snack all plated in the fridge inviting him to relax for a few moments when he arrives! I’m sure he will be touched by the gesture.

This is so sweet! What a great reminder to express appreciation for the people we love… and not take them for granted amidst the busyness of life. Life is short!
Hi Mia! It’s so easy to take for granted those we love best, isn’t it Mia? I want to take that extra time today to make sure my guy knows just how special he is to me
. Hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks for this reminder, Kristin. I am big on verbal affirmations, but forget that sometimes the little things like that really add up, too.
Yes! The little actions we do put feet on our words! I’m so glad it was an encouraging reminder to you! Hope you have a great Friday!
So sweet! A good reminder. I should do something sweet for my husband soon.
Hi Rach! I hope you do! I know it will bless him so much
i needed to read this for a little push!
i feel like i’ve been a little neeeeedy lately after work and its time i give back to my man!
xo the egg out west.
I know what you mean…I go through seasons of extreme neediness too…and my husband is always so kind to care for me. I’m glad it was an encouragement to you to give back a little love to your guy
. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts, hope your day is off to a great start!
Oh man, I definitely need to do some of these things. I am so guilty of not saying “thank you” in a sincere way. I like the towel idea, he’ll be so shocked! Thanks for sharing this!!
PS- you must be the perfect wife! The more I read your blog, the more I think you need to be a magazine column writer, you seriously write the best ideas!!
Hahahaha! Oh Britt…I’m SO not the perfect wife! But I have always been a huge proponent of keeping your marriage strong and investing in it as our top earthly priority. I’m not one to settle for mediocre…I wanna be all in once I commit to something, and that includes my man! I often write these ideas as reminders for myself – accountability I guess
. Thank you for your sweet words girl. Just made my day! I’d love to write a little marriage column should the opportunity present itself…we’ll see where this blogging road leads – you just never know! Happy weekending to you
Krisitin.
Thank you!
I’m soooooo glad you posted this.
I had been thinking along these lines lately.
Just needed a little encouragement.
Not to mention a reminder.
And maybe a couple good ideas.
Your post hit on all three counts!
Again. Thank you!
Hi Christa! One of the best things about blogging is when you write something that speaks to people – along the same lines where there own thoughts have been leading them – and your post is an encouragement – and they tell you so. THANK YOU!
I hope your day is filled with all kinds of good things…
I’ve missed you!! Sorry I’ve been MIA…it’s been busy round here. It just has. I’ve learned to embrace the chaos.
This is sweet. You are such a thoughtful lady.
Missed you too Twig-dear! Life will get that way sometimes…you’re wise to embrace the season instead of grumbling about it like I do. Just ride the wave, right?! Hope things settle down a bit for you soon!
