Refresh Your Life – The Hidden Things

100_1094

I’m a big proponent of surrounding yourself with things you love. As one popular saying goes: nothing deserves a place in your home that is not beautiful and/or useful. – Today we’re going to apply this little principle to an oft neglected set of clothing drawers: your pj drawer, and your bra/underwear drawer.

If you are like the majority of us, pajamas and undergarments aren’t on your top 10 list of favorite things to buy for yourself. And as a result, we might all just find a few articles of these very necessary pieces of clothing in *ahem* less than stellar (beautiful) shape. Raise your hand if you own pjs that are super old, worn out, have stains, holes, or dry-rotted elastic! Well now, having your sleepwear in such a condition hardly makes it delightful to get ready for bed, does it?!

If you’re married, let’s talk about your husband’s preferences for a moment, shall we? There is no hard and fast formula to what a man enjoys his wife sleeping in. Some actually love seeing her in a large sports-team t-shirt! Others prefer cute little matching cotton short sets. Still others might enjoy long silky gowns. If you’ve never taken the time to ask, why not do so (asking him to also consider your comfort level too of course)? You might just be surprised with the answer. All men will not answer “thongs” – I promise! Often times what we think is sexy, and what they think is sexy are two very different things… Don’t you love the idea of your husband’s last thought before he drifts off to sleep being along the lines of, “Wow. I sure married a looker!” As opposed to, “Gosh, I sure wish she’d throw those old rags away!” :-)

Now bras and undies don’t really need to be discussed in detail – you all know the difference between a nice pair, and a pair that has seen better days. If they are not in good condition (faded, picked, holey, grungy, stretched out, shrunken, stained, etc.) : PITCH THEM! NOW! Don’t even finish reading this blog post until you’ve got your old pjams and unds in that garbage can! You will immediately feel a sense of liberation – I promise! Do you feel the winds of change?

The reality is: chances are you’ll never buy yourself new ones until you see a half-empty drawer. At least, that’s how it works for me. – And when I feel like my “hidden things” are beautiful. It makes all of me feel a little more beautiful! And by golly, if we don’t all need a little more of that in our lives?! Refresh your hidden things today, and refresh your life!

Get to it!

I agree completely! I haven’t had a set of pajamas in years, but after Christmas I hit a couple sales and got some cute matching sets, I love having “outfits”! It’s funny you mention what husbands think because mine immediately commented about how nice it would be to see me in something other than the sweats I normally put on at home :) .

This is perfect timing for me – on my “to do” list for today is “organize drawers in bedroom and get rid of old items”. Top drawer is pj’s and undies! :)

    Guilty. So very guilty :)

Thank you for this reminder. It’s so hard to get rid of my seen-better-days comfy pj pants, but you’re right, it’s time to go. And let’s not talk about the fact that I wear sports bras to bed under my tanks. Thank goodness his love is unconditional!

Wow, I so so agree with this and a little ashamed that for the past month or more, I’ve told myself that I really really need to replace my current nude bra because its stretched and ‘grungy’ on the edges (eek) and keep putting it off sighting “no money”…but I won’t tell you how much I just spent yesterday on other things.. any hoo, thanks for the kick in the pants. ;)

    Must.go.replace.now!

  5. Okay. Did you talk to my husband? That is embarrassing. But he’s always telling me that I should just splurge on all new stuff. And, really, I probably should. I mean, we do that for our husbands. I’m always refreshing Alex’s hidden things.

Boy. I’m an awful wife. I need to step up my sexy factor. haha. Thanks for the reminder.
