Presto Change-o

Hello dearies! Today I thought I’d pop in to share a quick little home decor idea with you:

How to change the look of your bedding seasonally without having to buy a whole new bedding set.

Whew. I almost wanted to make that the post title! #GladIWentWithPlanB – So for comparisons sake, let’s first have a look back at what our Master Bedroom bedding looked like for the spring/summer seasons, shall we?

Mmmmk. Let’s break this down: White sheets, crisp white striped euro shams, paisley comforter folded down at the bottom of the bed – standard shams to match the comforter, gray down-alternative blanket, various accent pillows.

So what I ended up doing to cozy up the place a bit, was to layer the comforter (for warmth) under my gray blanket, thus making the blanket into a coverlet. Then I found a nubbly gray plaid throw and pillows to accessorize it with at Target. Easy peasy, right?

Our room contains a variety of whites and off whites, and to make the bed lean a bit more toward  the warm side, the throw/pillows I chose were gray and cream, instead of gray and white. I also purchased some tufted cream euro shams from PB on clearance to finish out the warmer look.

To me, coziness is all about layers of texture. Here’s a close up of a few of the bedding textures in the warm glow of lamplight:

Oh look! A chutie little dog came to model for us! Hello Miss Caroline :-)

So there’s our little seasonal bed makeover. Not pictured, but essential to all wintery beds? Flannel sheets. Our favorite is micro-brushed flannel. So much softer, warmer, and pill-ball-less than conventional!

Well all this bed talk has me wanting to go snuggle back under the covers again! Ciao for now ;-)

Do you change your bedding with the seasons?

Very cute! I’m an all-white bedding kind of girl…but we did get a set of olive green sheets for our wedding that I plan to use for wintertime, when it really feels like winter! The seasons just don’t change drastically enough down South for me to want to change the all-white look….but someday I will use them! Also, I totally agree that varying textures creates coziness. We have a mixture of white pillows from Pottery Barn (a shower gift) that are ruched, embroidered, stitched, etc….so beautiful to layer textures.

Oh I adore an all-white bed! They are so inviting! Somehow, I’d expect that from you ;-) . Because of our fur babies, and my husbands constant state of dirtiness (he’s a tree and landscape guy) a beautiful white bed isn’t in the cards for us. So I just live vicariously through beautiful magazine pictures, and hearing about my friends lovely beds! Ha! Hope you are having a great day Kate!

  2. Your winter bed looks so cozy… and your little Miss Caroline seems to agree :) It also seems to be balanced out in terms of masculinity/femininity.

Our bed now is grey and white too! We have the “moonflower” one from West Elm. It was actually a stretch for me because prior to that I was a no-prints, all-solids kind of girl. But the design isn’t too busy, and just slightly moody for the season. For spring/summer, I’m more inclined towards an all-white bed with lots of texture. There’s just something so refreshing and restful about it!

I’ll have to look into that “microbrushed flannel” – thanks for the suggestion! Those pill balls from regular flannel were juuust slightly annoying ;-)

You’re right Mia…a textured white bed is soooo fresh and peaceful! I know…it’s so frustrating how quickly regular flannel pills, isn’t it?? Funny you mention the masculine/feminine thing because in all the renovations we’ve done this year, that balance has been one of our major things to accomplish! I love that we BOTH feel completely at home in our home now, you know? Hope you have a great weekend friend!

Where did you get the down alternative blanket? I’m giving my bed a little makeover and I’ve been looking for one of those that LOOKS nice. I have one, but it’s not big enough for the bed and I have no idea where it came from.

Favorite places to get pops of color for your bed?

    • kristin says:

Hi Victoria! My blanket is from Target, and I just saw that they still carry it when I was there a few weeks ago. It comes in several colors! Hmmm…my favorite places for accent pillows? Probably Tj Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross. They always have a great selection and great prices too! Hope your weekend is fabulous girl :-)

  4. I have an all white bedspread/pillows but have never thought to adjust it to the seasons. This is wonderful! And I love your sweet puppy! She’s precious.

    • kristin says:

Aw, thank you! I’ll pass the compliment on to Miss Caroline ;-) . She’s a cutie! It is sooo fun to make little changes and then your whole bedroom seems fresh and new! You should give it a try sometime!! Thanks so much for stopping by and saying hello – I hope you have a wonderful weekend~
